Tip: Accessories

5 Aug

This weekend re think your décor accessories!

Are your rooms feeling tired?

A cheap and cheerful fix can be found by simply shopping your own home. Open up those cupboards, closets and peak underneath your bed, you are sure to find some interesting design objects. Gather your finds in one central location (hallway), then remove the selected room’s accessories, add them to the central pile. Shop your hallway (instead of a store) to come up with new and interesting looks. Feel free to pull from other rooms as well.

On deciding which items to (re) introduce into the space, think about a theme, colour scheme, scale, odd numbers, balance, symmetry, asymmetry, organic and inorganic objects, texture, shine, hard and soft etc.

Don’t be afraid to re work it until you are satisfied.

Idea: Once you feel you’ve got it right, take a digital photo. Enlarge the photo on your screen; if it looks like something that would grace the cover of a design magazine, you’ve got it! If it looks too cluttered, remove a few objects. If it looks too sparse, add a few more!

This is an easy way to update rooms both quickly and on a budget. Since accessories are easy to move and re work think about doing this two, three or even four time a year.

*If you are lacking in accessories ask friends and family for their unwanted accessories. Or arrange an accessory swap party!

Hi Lauren. I love your blog. Great tip about the mirrors. We’ll be making a pit stop there. Hopefully there are some left!

How can I be sure I get your blog automatically every day???
